Summer Vacation 2014: Silverton, San Juan County Historical Society Museum, Animas River At Twilight: Day 10!!!

Woke up with Curly giving me kisses. Every morning on our trip, either the kids or Jeff let him out of his kennel, and Curly immediately runs to my bed and greets me with such happiness! Wake up Mama! A new day has started! Simply adorable. Jeff took a hike this morning, up on the ridge, above the campground, to find the train tracks. It's a good thing when he gets to take hikes...fresh air and quiet time. Then we took the kids to the pool, before lunch, and before it got crowded. They sure love being in a pool! After we had lunch in our trailer, it was back up to Silverton! We wanted to go back to the San Juan County Historical Society Museum, because it has been a few years since we were there last, and they have made tons of improvements and such. Another great museum to be in! All about the mining and living in the San Juans! Of course we loved going inside the jail. It is a creepy jail, in a grand historical building, that was in fact, the Silverton jail. There was even an " insane" cell, for yes, the insane. Ugh. That stuff freaks me out. A parlor area and kitchen, for the jailor's wife and family...for somewhat of a normal life, in a freaking jail. Can you just imagine the loud screams and bangs going on there? By these lovely criminals and drunkards, clearly insane individuals as well; and then trying to relax and sew, or have dinner, or play the piano, like you live away from the crazies? The kitchen shares a wall, with the insane cell, and there is a food door in the wall, to feed the inmates. I don't know. I feel for those wives of the jailors, and their children. What a hard life. After we "put in our time," there, we were all released for good behaviors, and we took a drive to South Mineral Creek campground, about five miles on a dirt road, from Silverton. Isolated and beautiful. Back down to our campground, we had our "James Ranch" burgers, on the BBQ grill, and took a lovely evening stroll, by the Animas River.
