Summer Vacation 2014: Dunton & Telluride: Day 5!!!
First off, Happy Father's Day to our Dads! Jeff and Kent took a three mile hike, this morning, up along Priest Creek. Jeff said it was a great hike, so close to our campground. Then it was time to take a drive on an old dirt road to see the old mining town, Dunton. To our surprise...the town still had a lot of standing buildings...all to be disappointed we couldn't walk around and explore, because, the whole town is now privately owned; and has been "painstakingly" constructed to be the now "Dunton Hot Springs." A very high end, isolated luxurious escape. These people took the original old miners buildings/town structures, and renovated them to accommodate people to stay in. Still the cool looking buildings, just up to date to allow lodging and such. Anyway...on and on...we weren't allowed in, and that made us sad. But it sure was beautiful up there, and I still took pictures of the old town. The drive there was a stunning one at that, and a little dicey here and there, due to the fact that our truck takes the entire single lane road, and when you meet up with people...it's a problem (thank God Jeff knows how to drive those roads!). There was an old vehicle, still sitting beneath the road from which it drove on (which slid right off the slope). That's the kinda stuff that makes me nervous! It has been there for a longtime, but it just makes you think, of the people that were in that car, when it fell off the road. Scary. We then decided to go back to Telluride, because, why not? The day was warmer and the sun was shining! We took another ride on the gondola, and this time, took it all the way to the Mountain Village, where Jeff started rock climbing boulders, and Starbucks was waiting for us. Let me tell ya, that was one of the coolest Starbucks I have ever seen! So I took a picture of it. It was another fun ride on that gondola, and we just really chilled today. Taking our drives around the mountains, listening to country music with our windows down. It was a good day. For dinner we had BBQ chicken, had rice and corn. Ice cream for dessert. I'm currently sitting in the laundry building, washing our clothes, so we will be all set for our time in Durango! We head there tomorrow. I sure will miss this Priest Gulch. It's now one of our favorite places, and we will most definitely return!
