Man Vs. Machine

Saturday the family and I took a train ride, with 4960 and the old green Pullman passenger cars! It was an awesome day! A big event, where 250 bicyclists raced from Tusayan, back to Williams. against 4960. The whole man vs. machine concept! What an event! 4960 pulled four passenger cars and a cafe car, diesel free. There was even a helicopter tracking and filming the train and then filming the bicyclists riding. It was a historic ride to the canyon! We had a photo op along the way to the canyon, where we were able to get off the train, and take pictures of the steam engine chugging away, and without any people blocking the view. When we arrived at the canyon, we had about an hour to say hello, then back on the train! The man vs machine race started at 1:00, and it was just so exciting! Some of the bicyclists finally got caught up around Red Lake, off of hwy 64, and that's where I took their pictures. It was a beautiful day, with a great steam engine taking us along. Oh by the way...in case the suspense was killing you...the machine won! Team Steam! 

Mr. Kent's 11th Birthday!!!!

Somebody pinch me! I can't believe Kent is 11 yrs. old! What the?! Our XC runner turned 11, at 4:44 am. He was pretty excited all day (of course). I brought cupcakes to school, Mel made Kent and Samantha pizza for lunch, and they ate with us in the office...Kent came home, and got to open his gifts. We bought him a brand new mountain bike with bigger tires, gears, just a cool looking bike. He loved it! Jeff also bought a genuine sling shot with shots. Kent was thrilled! He immediately took his bike out. Kent's requested birthday dinner, was McDonald's. Yep! So that's what we had.  Then chocolate cake for dessert. Kent seemed to really appreciate his birthday. We are very blessed to have him as our son. This kid is growing up too fast in my opinion, and he is turning into a wonderful young man. Happy Birthday Mr. Kent. We love you. 

2nd XC Meet! Go Kent! Go!

Today we had Kent's second XC meet, at Foxglenn Park, in Flagstaff. It was a two mile course, and this kid finished it in 14:19!!! He was running in a 5th/6th grade boys group...out of 60 of them, he came in 26! So proud of our boy!  

First XC Meet!!!

Today Mr. Kent had his first cross-country meet. It was at Buckskinner Park, in Williams. It rained a lot right before it started...so there was mud, a lot of mud. Lots of schools were there competing, grades 5th-8th. I'm so proud of Kent, for his determination and strength to push through the finish line. He finished 9th out of 24 runners, in his 5th grade boys category. His time was 15:20. Way to go Mr. Kent! On to the next meet!! Go Maine Mustangs!!!
