San Juan style. Ah yeah.
We had a great weekend in Silverton, CO. It was a get away that was needed...as in...get out of dodge for a couple days...we haven't been to Silverton in a LONG TIME and it felt great to be back. We stayed in a rental cabin, called "Artist Cabin." It sits right in an old ghost town, called Chattanooga. That old 1800s town was wiped out from an avalanche (still a deadly area for avalanches. The chutes are everywhere out there)..this cabin sits on some history filled land :o) I took some pictures of the surrounding landscape, that we sat outside the back deck, looking onward at God's beauty. Across the highway from the cabin, was some old structures..all pretty amazing. Jeff and I love this stuff! It is in our blood, and we appreciate and respect the history of the west, with the mines, and tragedies, the awestruck of survival on the San Juan mountains (YEAR ROUND). That kills me! These people had it so tough. The pictures of the other buildings (one with Sami and I looking out), is in an old mining ghost town called "Animas Forks." That house we were standing in was called the "Duncan House." There were other structures that we were able to walk through..an enclosed outhouse connected to a home (convenient and was known all through the town, at that time, as the "indoor toilet!" Who would have thought?! Of course I took some pictures of the Durango and Silverton Narrow Gauge Steam Engines, arriving into town. Took an awesome view of the town of Silverton...ahhhh. Just take it in. There is also a lake photo with Jeff and the kids. That was our last stop on our way out of Silverton, CO. Until next time!
