I am very upset at the moment. My sweet little Georgette is dead. I heard crazy chicken noises outside, not sure what that was about...so I looked out the back window and saw this dog, that lives down the street (and the stupid owners let roam everywhere); and I knew exactly what had just happened. So I immediately kick the dog away, and it's partner dog, that was over by the chicken coop...and I started searching for all my chickens. Five of them were terrified, sitting on top of the high shelf, in the coop. Pippa was hiding over by some wood near the coop; so I picked her up and held her close. Once I located six of my chickens, and locked them up...I followed the trail of clumps of feathers, and located Georgette's lifeless body, underneath our deck. Blood and more feathers. I was just sickened, and still am. I placed Georgette in a bag, and placed it in the dumpster. My sweet little Georgette is no more. I always knew this was a risk, letting my chickens free range; with the chance of getting taken out by an animal...but these two dogs are not strays. They are someones pets, and they need to learn to either keep their dogs behind a fence, or leash. Makes me sick.
Also...let it be known, I did contact the sheriffs department and made a report; and they contacted Animal Control, and made a report about these two dogs at large. The animal control gal is patrolling our streets today and tomorrow, to try to capture these dogs, and figure out who owns them. If she can't locate the animals, we are planning on setting live animal traps to see if we can capture them. So time will tell on this one. The animal control people were very friendly, and want to help me get these dogs contained. Now that blood has been tasted, they will most definitely be returning. My chickens, however, will not be free ranging.
