We love you Jake.

Our dog, Jake, passed away very early this morning. He actually passed away in my arms. Jake would have been 15 years old this October, so he was old and sick. He had been diagnosed with kidney disease near the end of April and was doing okay up to this trip, actually, when we were in Montana he really started going down hill. Last night we started seeing him fade fast. He could no longer eat, drink, hold himself up, he didn't sleep at all last night, and he was whimpering. Jeff and I were with him, from 1:00 am until when he passed at just after 5:00 am this morning. We were comforting him, petting him, loving him. We were in the truck at around 5ish, ready to head out 100 miles to the nearest vet (which was in Idaho) to have him put down; but we knew he wouldn't make it, and we were right. He gasped his last few breaths while I was holding him. That was extremely difficult. Jeff drove over the state line to Idaho, and that was where he was laid to rest; in the woods, wrapped up in Jeff's coat and logs placed above him. We are so exhausted and very emotional. Even Kent understood Jake's passing away and he was crying. Jake was a really good dog, and he definitely loved unconditionally. He is and will be missed, always. We love you "Mr. Dog."
